The Happy Tooth Foundation ‘Take a Bike Out of Hunger’ Tour!

About the Campaign

This summer, roommates Zach Mayo and William Gillespie will be cycling from Murphey to Manteo to raise funds and awareness for The Happy Tooth Foundation’s “Yes I Can” triathlon summer camp. The aim of the camp is to fight food insecurity in Chapel Hill and beyond by providing food, education, and the empowerment to say, “Yes, I Can!” Last year, the camp took in 9 campers. At the start of the summer 6 of these 9 did not know how to swim, and 4 of the 9 could not ride a bike. By the end of the summer, all 9 campers competed in and completed the USAT Mid-Atlantic Youth Triathlon championship race. This year the camp is looking to grow the number of children who can participate and William and Zach are asking for your support to help make it happen. Their goal is to raise $20,000 which will allow 4 more children to be a part of the program.

About the riders:

Zach Mayo is currently a senior at the University of North Carolina with the hopes of pursuing pediatric medicine. As William’s roommate, he was moved by the stories of the campers from last summer.  Seeing the impact that the camp had not only on the campers but also their families and community he joins William in this ride to raise support and awareness and target food insecurity.

William Gillespie is the current camp director of the “Yes I Can” camp. This is William’s second year working at the camp, and he is looking forward to working with more kids and expanding the impact of the foundation this summer!
